I've read a couple of Mahfouz's other works, and I quite like him | , the edition I read was NOT the one I have chosen here on Goodreads, because mine is old and tattered and does not seem to exist in the database , I was more engaged with this book than The Thief and the Dogs or The Day the Leader Was Killed both good books too |
For one thing, it's much more compact and intense, without the dreaminess I remember from several places in the trilogy.
